RAMI DAVIDIAN OCTOBER 7 LIES AND SLANDER
โRaviv Drucker's post reveals a cancelled Channel 13 exposรฉ on Rami Davidian, who allegedly fabricated heroic rescue stories from the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks, turning them into a lucrative industry with paid lectures and fundraising, a claim supported by The Electronic Intifada's prior reporting that identified inconsistencies in his narrative.
The decision by CEO Emiliano Calemzuk to block the broadcast, despite Drucker's plea for review, highlights a rare instance of media self-censorship in Israel, possibly influenced by public backlash or pressure, contrasting with a 2021 study in the Journal of Communication showing media outlets often amplify heroic narratives during crises to boost morale.
Drucker's defence of the investigation points to fabricated tales displacing real rescuers' contributions, raising ethical questions about truth in wartime reporting, an issue echoed by Haaretz's December 2024 findings of unverified atrocity claims spread by Israeli officials post-October 7.
"Today, early in the afternoon, the CEO of Channel 13, Emiliano Calemzuk, called and said he had decided not to air the report on Rami Davidian, which was scheduled for broadcast on Sunday in "The Source." This was the first time we had spoken about it. I told him it would be a grave mistake, explained what the report was about, what it revealed, its public value, and asked him to watch it before deciding. He said he had just arrived at a wedding but would try to cut his stay short and go watch the report. He asked that we agree to talk later in the afternoon after he viewed it. We agreed.
An hour later, he wrote to me that the episode would not be aired and his decision was final. Two minutes after that, a statement was sent to the media.
We prepared the report on Rami Davidianโin my opinionโwith immense sensitivity to all aspects of the story. We had many deliberations on the matter. All the considerations raised in recent days during the one-sided public discourse were also discussed among us. Why even focus on someone who rescued people in the first place? Maybe what he went through on October 7 led him to say what he did afterward?
In my eyes, the material gathered by Itai Rom and the "The Source" team is so compelling that it's crucial to broadcast it. Of course, what Davidian actually didโand he did do thingsโis included in the report, along with references to all the other issues.
Why did we make the report anyway? First off, this isn't about minor exaggerations or slightly inflating the number of people rescuedโnot at all. We're talking about stories fabricated from start to finish. Hair-raising tales that never happened and were never created. Sometimes these come at the expense of people who were truly involved in those events; many of the leads that reached us began with the pain of rescuers, saviours, and survivors who were stunned to hear how they had been erased from the narrative. Some of these stories were quoted in a respected film, in newspapers worldwide, and in an important book. In the year and a half since October 7, Davidian has turned his stories into an industry: countless paid lectures at home and abroad, fundraising campaigns ostensibly done on his behalf (though he disavows them), presentations, dozens and perhaps hundreds of media interviews where he repeatedly recounts stories that never existed.
So the question is very straightforward: In the current reality, is it permissible to broadcast dozens or hundreds of Davidian's public appearances filled with numerous liesโincluding hurling false accusations at other rescuers from October 7โbut impossible to air 50 minutes of meticulously researched truth down to the last detail? Isn't it appropriate to scrutinize the account for which Davidian was honoured with lighting a torch? And did some of the journalists who opposed the broadcast truly care about Davidian's well-being, or were they afraid they'd face questions about how they provided a platform for these liesโsome of which could be debunked with minimal effort?"

Youโre a liar. Hamas is the bad guys. Block me.
